Indo-German digital cooperation has made significant progress, with increased interest from EU businesses to invest in India and the digital entreprenuership mindset of many Indians. Continuous efforts are underway to align regulatory frameworks and explore areas such as digital governance and interoperability. However, there are challenges that remain, including topics of data protection, regulating emerging technologies and the requirement for countries and unions, such as the European Union, to be a part of the conversation and act. Only with continued dialogue and collaboration can the full potential of Indo-German and Indo-European digital cooperation be unlocked.
On 25 October 2023 we discussed these topics in our Indo-German Business Talk. We were joined by three experts from the technology and business environment: Alvis Ancans, European Commission, Directorate General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT), International Relations Officer, India Desk; Anisha Koshy, Senior Associate for Public Policy and Privacy, Data Security Council of India and Joel Fernandes, Project and Policy Advisor, Eurochambres.
Our [India] appetite for risk, especially when it comes to data, and our appetite for looking at culturally how data is consumed in India, I think is quite different.
Anisha Koshy, Senior Associate for Public Policy and Privacy, Data Security Council of India
Our panellists provided a diverse conversation, bringing in topics such as regulatory alignments, data culture in India and Europe, digital entrepreneurship and inclusion and recommendations on how we can regulate emerging technologies.
India is taking its own road which is more divergent from where the Europeans have gone on this [topic of data protection].
Alvis Ancans, European Commission, Directorate General for Communication Networks, Content and Technology (DG CNECT), International Relations Officer, India Desk
…the Germans and the Europeans should look at India and say: “Hey you guys have the best IT systems and IT management tools and applications, why don’t you come here and help our governments and not only the governments but even the banking sectors to improve our applications?”
Joel Fernandes, Project and Policy Advisor, Eurochambres
As we hear more and more about digital transformation in all sectors, and using emerging technologies, the Webinar provided strong insights and collaboration opportunities between the EU-India corridor.
