Indian career diplomat B.S. Mubarak took over the position of India’s Consul General in Frankfurt in autumn 2023. He joins IGC board member Dr. Kasturi Dadhe for a conversation around Indo-German relations, reflecting on his experiences after almost one year on the job.

B. S. Mubarak joined the Indian Foreign Service in 2001 and had served in Cairo, Dubai, Jeddah. He headed India’s Diplomatic Mission in Palestine from 2012 to 2014 and was Consul General of India in Jeddah from 2014 to 2016.

He was Director and later Joint Secretary in the Southern Division of the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from April 2016 to November 2018.

He was Ambassador of India to Guatemala, El Salvador and Honduras from 2018 to 2021 and Ambassador to the Republic of Sudan from 2022 to 2023. In October 2023, Mr Mubarak assumed the charge of Consul General of India in Frankfurt, Germany.

Mr. Mubarak hails from Kanyakumari District in Tamil Nadu. He holds a Master’s degree in Science from the Centre of Advanced Study in Marine Biology, Tamil Nadu, India. He takes special interest in sustainable development.
