Professor, Institute for Human Development

Dr. Sarthi Acharya is a Professor at the Institute for Human Development, New Delhi. An Economist with four decades, he has experience in formulating economic policies, providing academic/professional consultancy, undertaking research programmes, organising seminars and advising Governments in India and abroad. He has conducted collaborative research with national and overseas partners: the World Bank, ADB, UN agencies, Population Council, and state governments in India, among others. He was professor at Tata Institute of Social Sciences Mumbai, director at IDS Jaipur, and has been a staff member of the UNDP, ILO and Unicef. He was the UNDP’s Chief Technical Advisor, associated with the Governments of Cambodia and Lao PDR in formulating their Five-year Plans. Through ILO, he prepared the Employment Guarantee Outline for Government of Indonesia. Earlier, he had been associated with universities in the US and Europe. He has authored over 50 research papers and four books.
