Dr Andreas Nicolin has been the Commissioner for Asia, Australia and New Zealand at the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy since January 2019 and is also responsible for foreign trade promotion. He had previously worked as a sub-department head at the BMWi from 2017. From 2006 to 2017, he was responsible for foreign trade as Head of Division at the Federal Chancellery. During this time, he closely supported the intensification of economic relations with Asian partner countries and took part in numerous trips by the Federal Chancellor with high-ranking economic delegations to the region. From 1998 onwards, he held various positions in the Federal Ministry of Economics, at the German Permanent Representation to the EU in Brussels and in the Federal Chancellery. Andreas Nicolin studied Maths and Economics in Aachen, Bonn, London (LSE) and Munich.
